Love..

Some of this at MPower are looking for love and finding it hard to find it. Does anyone have any tips for us? Does anyone else feel like this? Sometimes meeting girls is hard man. And sometimes meeting boys is a pain in the neck. Sometimes we worry that people might cheat on us. We would like to meet someone who knows us, can respect us, with a good personality, a nice smile, nice eyes, someone who can cater to our needs, good sense of humour, good dancer, good singer, good dj, and someone who treats someone with respect! We would make a great boyfriend or girlfriend because we can cook and clean and all of the above! Does anyone else feel like this?!?! Has anyone used dating websites like 'Stars in the Sky'???

We are family...

This week we've been talking about how to welcome MPowers new members next term, get them socialising, and to settle them into the group. We're going to do this by...
-Introducing ourselves
-Socialising and communicating well
-Making them feel welcome
-Make them a welcome cake...cupcakes and chocolate cake and cheesecake
-Make them feel comfortable in the group
-Show them around
-Do something fun like dancing
-Do signing training so we can all understand each other and everyone can communicate
-Tell them about MPower's work and a bit about ourselves
-Discussing our group agreement and sticking with our rules
-Teach to learn like we have because we are the voice of disability
-Give people time to settle in
-Allow people to share their feelings
-Treating people with love and respect even if we're not best friends

We want new members to feel...
-happy
-comfortable...physically and mentally
-welcome
-Respected

If you want to join our MPower message us, especially if you're a girl! Or visit www.markfield.org.uk for contact details Were really looking forward to meeting to you :)

Talking about how we feel about new people starting MPower has made us want to have a reunion of all old MPower members and staff!! Watch this space!!xxx

If you weren't there you've missed out!!!!!!

Well basically on the 7th of November 2013
we the fantastic M-power had an extra ordinary spectacular , mind-blowing , out of this work, spaghetti bolegnese with hot sauce with curry on the top  BONFIRE PARTY!!!!!!!

We had a bonfire, cake, chicken, hot chocolate with marshmallow, sparklers and an out of this world photographer; Super KIRK with his super Hd camera.

We were fashionably late to our own party, we know, we're divas  *hair flick*

The icing on the cake has to be DJ Sound killAH aka Aziah as he goes by day. His ex manger, his brother had this to say " if you need a booking from my former client please call Markfield"

Here are the stats we had an outstanding turn out for our first event 45 people. Our surveys showed 100% of people saying they would like us to do it agin. One of  our fabulous guests had this to say "I loved the music, the fire, the food  and everyone is smiling , talking and having fun. LOTS MORE OF THIS PLEASE"

Here is our personal feedback on what we enjoyed and what we learnt:

Jo- It was totally Amaze balls, I love MPower so so much and i'm so proud of all of you.

Aziah- It was awesome , I know we need to do it agin, but we could make people pay to raise money, surely you can spare £1 or 2. Please sir give me some more.

Aniajah- I could feel my ancestors come back and dance with us thats how unreal it was, JUST FANTASIC.

Kerry- I enjoyed it so much, I saw people I hadnt seen is such a long time like Sarah and Max.

Zac- The party was dynamic BOOM, explosion, amazing and magnifique.

Josh- Next time bigger party and more dancing

Dom- I felt really proud of you guys, we were so focused and on it and you got to do something you wanted to do!!

Mark- I loved the music and the fact that we had a proper sound system! it was great to see Mpower enjoy the results of so much hard work.

Obinna- Even tho i was not there with M-power physically, I was there with you in spirt and I already know you guys are fantastic and did a great job.

Letter to Markfield staff meeting

Last week Markfield staff had a team meeting so we wrote them a letter to tell them what we thought and what we wanted...

  • We would like to go on a holiday together to Europe. Could we raise the money?
  • We've done so many great things, we represent all service users. We are like Markfield's MPs. We achieve things and we want to tell everyone. We want staff to support us, ask our opinions, listen to us and comment on our work. It would be great for the team. We have a voice. We have a dream. Come and meet us.
  • We will be spreading the message to all clubs and across all disibilities. We are not just humans we are super humans/ heros.
  • We are going to have a new notice board with a thermometer to see our fundraising at Sainsburys, pictures of MPower and what we want.
  • We want to be involved in more decisions. We want to know how Makrfield works. We hope you like our decisions.
Love MPower

MPower
MPower is a group of young people of all abilities. Everyone in the group either has a disability or has a family member with one. At MPower we call the shots.
